Step 1: Eye test
The first step to convert a foreign driving license in UAE is to do the eye test. You can do it at the nearest approved optician shop. The optician shop will also upload the result to traffic system. Eye test costs AED 100.
Step 2: Do the legal translation at Index Legal Translation
After you finish the eye test, driving license translation in Abu Dhabi is required, so you can visit Index Legal Translation with the original license, UAE ID, and one passport sized photo (Digital copy is also OK). Index will do the translation and upload your documents to Abu Dhabi Traffic System. You should be on Abu Dhabi visa in order to convert your foreign driving license in Abu Dhabi. After translation you will receive the following sms “Dear customer.. we have received your foreign driving license application No: 1252200000000* we will inform you the verification status of your foreign driving license soon” then in the next working day or within 3 to 5 working days you will receive one more sms: “ Dear Customer- Please be informed that your foreign driving license has been approved, now proceed to complete the process through our e-services channels”. Translation costs AED 150. It also includes filling in a form and uploading your documents to traffic system.
Step 3: Pay License issuance fees through Abu Dhabi Police Application
The last step is to pay UAE driving license fees through Abu Dhabi police application or website. You will pay AED 603 then you will receive the following sms: “Congratulations on obtaining your driving license. we wish you a safe driving by following the traffic rules. Transaction for the driving license number 280**** has been done. receipt No: 1251****** with an amount of AED 600. please collect your driving license at any nearest service center”.
After that you just need to visit traffic department behind Mushrif mall or traffic department in Mussafah near Emirates driving school and get your UAE driving license.
