Power of Attorney meaning

A power of attorney is a document whereby a person, whether a natural person (human) or a legal person (a company for example), authorizes another person to perform some task on his behalf. Index Legal Translation drafts powers of attorney in Arabic and English and provides duly certified translations so that it can be attested by the notary public in the United Arab Emirates. For example, when a company owner wishes to authorize someone to manage his company and its affairs in relation to approaching government departments or signing on his behalf before Immigration, governmental entities, Water and Electricity Department in order to obtain services, or when a company authorizes a person to sign on its behalf before the banks, to open bank accounts, to sign checks, and to withdraw and deposit on the account, then this requires a power of attorney from this company to that person. If one of the parties to the transaction is not Arabic, the power of attorney must be drafted in Arabic and English and stamped by a legal translator licensed by the Ministry of Justice in order to be attested by the notary public in the UAE.

A person may need to authorize another person to attest some papers on his behalf if this attorney is outside the country in which the papers are intended to be attested. Also, the father of a girl may appoint someone to perform the procedures of the marriage of his daughter on his behalf if this person is not a resident in the country where his daughter resides, and in this case there is a need to create and authenticate a power of attorney.

Power of attorney examples

To give another example, a non-Arab person who was residing in the Emirates and due to some circumstances he returned back to his country, and now wants to sell his car in the UAE. A power of attorney issued outside the UAE needs to be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then a legal translation of the same into Arabic should be done in order to be used inside the UAE.

Powers of attorney issued from outside the UAE must be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country from which the power of attorney was issued and the UAE embassy in this country or the embassy of this country in the UAE and then attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the UAE so that a legal translation of it into Arabic can be done in order to be used for official use in the United Arab Emirates.
